Can we feel art? Not in the sense of an inner feeling of emotion but to literally feel the art with our sense of touch. While many galleries now are becoming more focused on the other senses and not just vision, we do experience this already in our daily lives. Jewellery for example, while it is definitely a visual art, it is worn and felt by the person wearing it. The same could be said about clothing, cushions, pillows and blankets which can all look visually appealing but are also felt for their softness and warmth.
Some forms of art are specifically designed to be touched and include stress relief items such as fidget toys. Fidgeting or small movements of restlessness can be tapping your fingers, bouncing your knees and twirling your hair. It can be common among people with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or anxiety, and has been thought to be a coping mechanism for the body to promote stimulant release and increase focus in people with attention disorders.
Fidget toys can help. Designed to increase focus while alleviating other, more distracting habits, fidget toys give your hands something to do so the mind can effectively redirect its attention, and when needed, relax. Fidget toys can be used to help ease anxiety. The toy pulls the user away from any particular stressful thought or situation and provides a temporary form of relief.
